About Us

Who We Are

The Calgary PASS User Group is a local association that organizes events and activities to provide Microsoft Data Platform professionals with cutting-edge information about SQL Server and Azure technologies.

The user group is run by volunteers and was formed in late 2008 by Noel Tan. Our membership includes database administrators, database developers, database architects and database managers. Membership and attendance of events is completely free. A typical event will draw between 15-40 members.

Sponsorship opportunities

Becoming A Sponsor

Thank you for your interest in sponsoring the Calgary PASS User Group and supporting the Microsoft Data Platform community within Calgary. For our gatherings, our sponsorship model works on a per event basis as follows:

Amount of $200 per event. For that, you will get:

  1. Your company's name/logo on the user group web site for that event and on our event history page.
  2. Your company's name and link to company's web site will be included in our emails about the event you are sponsoring.
  3. You have the option of making a 5 minutes to 15 minutes (max) presentation to our attendees prior to the main speaker presenting.
  4. You can distribute pre-approved pamphlets, literature, etc. at the event (provided by you).
  5. You can display signs / corporate logos at the event (provided by you).
  6. The money collected from event sponsorship is used to fund user group events (including providing food and drinks for attendees of our events).
  7. If you are sponsoring to use your space in your building for our events, the user group will make mention of the organization donating the space in its announcements prior to the sponsors 5-minute presentation.

PASS Affiliation

We are affiliated with the PASS organisation, a worldwide professional association for SQL Server and associated technologies.

PASS holds a Summit each year. Members are encouraged to register with PASS and select Calgary PASS as your associated local group.

Officer Roles

The group leader has overall responsibility for the activities of the group. This person coordinates the activities of the other officers in meeting planning.

The leader is also responsible for planning 4 - 6 meetings per year. They represent the group at the annual PASS Summit.

Code of Conduct

Calgary PASS User Group Code of Conduct

All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at our events (online and in-person) are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout our events. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.


Our events are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from an event without a refund at the discretion of the event organisers.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces (including online meetings), deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material. Staff and volunteers should not use sexualised clothing / uniforms / costumes, or otherwise create a sexualised environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the event organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of event staff immediately. Event staff can be identified as they'll be wearing branded clothing and/or badges. For online events, staff can be contacted through online chat functionality.

Event staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel / venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at event and workshop venues and event-related social events.
